Dr. Brandy Fureman is employed by the Epilepsy Foundation as Chief Outcomes Officer, where she serves as Principal Investigator for the Foundation’s public health cooperative agreement with the CDC entitled “Improving Epilepsy Education, Systems of Care, and Health Outcomes through National and Community Partnerships.” She also provides independent consulting services through Neuroscience Navigators Consulting, LLC.
Fureman led the founding of the Epilepsy Learning Healthcare System (ELHS) in 2019, a first of its kind learning collaborative in epilepsy grounded in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Model for Improvement and the Healthier Together learning health network approach used successfully in multiple other health conditions to improve patient outcomes. ELHS is a multicenter, multistakeholder network of clinical centers and community-based organizations co-producing better epilepsy care with patients and families through population health management and quality improvement methods.
Previously, Fureman was the Foundation’s Vice President for Research & New Therapies, working with researchers, entrepreneurs and regulatory groups including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA). Prior to that she was a Program Director with the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NIH/NINDS) overseeing a portfolio of basic, translational and clinical epilepsy research, including clinical trials. Fureman entered government service through a Presidential Management Fellowship program at the NINDS and received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. She is a proud graduate of Cedar Crest College with a B.S. in Genetic Engineering Technology.
